Teenager Trouble

Just reading this book,
By way of a good friend.
(I will return it by Friday,
I promise)

Get Out of My Life, but First Could You Drive Me & Cheryl to the Mall: A Parent's Guide to the New Teenager, Revised and Updated

The author is coming to Glen Ames on April 20th.
Please come if you can.
There was a shout out to everyone in the neighbourhood;
not just Glen Ames parents.

Here is the notice from Glen Ames:

Get Out Of My Life, But First Could You Please Drive Me and Cheryl To the Mall?

WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20, 2011  7 pm

Dr. Anthony Wolf is a practicing clinical psychologist in Massachusetts who has been seeing children and adolescents for thirty years. He is the author of six parenting books including the best selling, “Get Out of My Life, But First Could You Drive Me and Cheryl to the Mall?’ A Parent’s Guide to the New Teenager.” He is a regular columnist in the Globe and Mail where he offers unvarnished advice and smart strategies to parents of teenagers. Dr. Wolf is best known both in his writing and his speaking for his very funny and non-judgmental ability to describe what actually goes on in real people’s homes with real children, his original perspective on parenting and on kids today, and for his practical and very helpful advice. He is married and the father of two ex-teenagers.

I'm on page 40 and although it doesn't give you
"what to do if they do this"
kind of advice, it tells you why teens act the way they do.
I'm noticing that if I understand why they act the way they do and
Why they are saying what they are saying,
I'm slower to react. This gives me time to figure out
What to do, or what not to do.
Both my boys require different strategies.
For Ethan sometimes I repeat what he says,
Because he can't possibly know what he's saying sometimes.
Ethan said, "Why can't you make my lunch. You're not doing anything."
I said, "Why can't I make your lunch?" in a monotone voice.
Ethan says, "Sorry. Do we have any mozarella."

I'm treading on very new ground.
Think we should start a book club on these books
and meet weekly.

Love you so much,
g
