Having a cold for almost two weeks is a drag except that during the second week I received a call from the library to say that Stieg Larsson's, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo came in for me. I ordered it about six months ago. I think I was number 600 and something. When I had it home, I was intimidated by it's length until I saw the line spacing and font size and once I started reading it... well, as you may well know, it wasn't long until all 600 plus pages were read and I was craving the next one. My friend suggested I call the used book store, but they only had new ones. I am on a waiting list if a used copy comes in. In the interim, I placed a hold on one at the library. There are 364 copies and I'm number 677.

On my way home from the library I went into the book store and asked to see the Kobo e-reader. It is very light and compact. I loved the matt screen. The one they let me use was black. It was cute and unassuming. The text was easy to read and had various font sizes for whatever your needs. What I wanted it to do was to search through text for specific words and quotes. It wasn't able to do this. I also didn't like the push pad on the bottom. It's out of my mind now. For those reasons, I don't want it. I'm going to try and look at Amazon's e-reader next. You are probably wondering, what about the iPad. I don't think I can pull it off. I would look too pretentious with it, not that I can afford any e-reader or iPad at the moment, but I did go to the Mac store last month to have a look at it. It's very nice. A large version of the iPod really. It is a substantial piece of entertainment, but the need to load it up with all sorts of books, magazines, movies and video wouldn't be healthy for me financially nor socially.
One reason I want my e-reader to source out the use of a word or to find a quote was because of all the sandwiches mentioned in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, plus Lisbeth's t-shirts. I went to the Toronto Public Libaray site and downloaded the e-reader there and guess what, downloaded not only The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but The Girl who Played with Fire. Hippeee...
Downloaded Adobe e-reader onto my Mac for free. Downloaded Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and then Girl who Played with Fire. There is a "find" window into which I put t-shirt (Lisbeth has three t-shirts listed where Mr Larsson tells us what is written on them.) They all made me laugh. Here they are listed. Along with the Sandwiches which were just about the only thing anyone eats.
T-Shirts
...Salander was dressed for the day in a black T-shirt with a picture on it of E.T. with fangs, and the words I AM ALSO AN ALIEN....she slipped into her bedroom and put on jeans, and a T-shirt with the slogan ARMAGEDDON WAS YESTERDAY-TODAY WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
...When she came back out she had taken off her leathers and sat down in jeans and a T-shirt with the slogan I CAN BE A REGULAR BITCH. JUST TRY ME.
Sandwiches:
-liver pate and cucumber sandwich
-cheese and liver sausage and dill pickle sandwiches on rye
-plastic wrapped sandwiches from the vending machine
-open sandwiches of pickled herring in mustard sauce with chives and egg
-open rye sandwiches with cheese, caviar, and a hard-boiled egg
-sandwiches with cheese and pickles
See you!
